A course for the serious student of yoga – build your foundation of practice.
Taking place over 10 weekends throughout the year, the In-Depth Course is a great opportunity to challenge yourself, enrich your practice, and take a step further in your personal journey of self-study.
We are excited to offer you a year-long program of yoga study and practice that aims to inspire students to develop a deep understanding of the practice of āsana and prānāyāma, and to further their practice and understanding of the ‘art and science’ of Iyengar Yoga. When we develop a firm foundation in our yoga practice, yoga becomes the means to live our lives more fully, to develop healthy relationships and to give back to the world.
Two experienced certified Iyengar Yoga teachers and specialist teachers (anatomy, philosophy) will take you through a progressive study of āsana, prānāyāma and the underpinning philosophy, basic anatomy and physiology. This will give you a practical means to further develop your Iyengar yoga practice, as well as a depth of understanding of your consciousness and how yoga can benefit you. You will receive reading assignments and home practice materials so you can delve deeper into your home practice throughout the course and beyond. The course will offer you an environment to study yoga in-depth, and can be repeated over the years as the teachers will work with a variety of subjects from the richness of Iyengar yoga.
Topics that can be relevant for you as an interested student or in your work with your Mentor, such as Anatomy or Therapeutic Application of Yoga, can be studied in our Iyengar Yoga Institute.
This trajectory is for you if you:
- want to work towards taking the Iyengar Yoga Assessment
- have minimum 3-year Iyengar Yoga experience and feel you are ready to share what you have learned
- are prepared to work with your Mentor for additional 3 years
- want to work with your Mentor 1-on-1 or in small groups to observe, assist and start teaching yoga classes over time
take lots of classes and practice
Mainly focused on following classes and the In-Depth Course, deepening your own practice. Learn the names of the asanas and read relevant material. But you can start observing classes and assisting
start observing and assisting
Observe a minimum of 10 classes and assist in a minimum of 20 classes. Follow the In-Depth course. Start practice teaching your fellow trainees. Reflect on this by keeping a journal and writing reports.
Assist another minimum of 15 classes and start teaching bits of the class. Your Mentor gives feedback – either by being present in the class or by watching video of classes. As Trainee you write reports to reflect.
“Apprenticeship (trainee mentorship)” preparing qualified students to become teachers.
This is not a teacher training course: it is a more fluid system based on one-on-one work with your teacher(s). Yoga is an experiential subject. You can only teach what you have experienced. Therefore, practice is at the forefront of the learning experience. After having taken regular Iyengar classes for at least 3 years, you have to find a teacher who is a qualified Mentor to work with. This means you will enter a relationship for *at least* another 3 years, where you are guided by your Mentor in general classes to follow, observe and assist in classes, and start to teach.
The best way to find out if this programme is for you is to ask by email (email@example.com) and arrange an appointment in person with our main Mentor, Helena Kubrychtová Bártová.
If you decide to enter the Mentorship Programme, we expect that you take classes with a certified Iyengar yoga teacher at least 2x/week, follow the In-Depth Yoga Course each year and work together in a small group with your co-trainees in the Mentorship Programme.
You cannot participate in the Mentorship Programme while you are pregnant, or if you have health issues that may jeopardise your own safety.
